Description	:	Vern Bennett Keller was born November 10th, 1897, and as a child of six years of age, was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. John Keller. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Fairmont, and promptly obeyed his country's call and enlisted in the 6th Cavalry Troop and saws active duty in France, rendering valuable service to his country. On returning home, he at once assisted his foster parents, and during the last year he went to Madrid, Nebraska, where he was engaged in farming, and during the last few months had accumulated some stock and other property... Read More	Vern Bennett Keller was born November 10th, 1897, and as a child of six years of age, was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. John Keller. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Fairmont, and promptly obeyed his country's call and enlisted in the 6th Cavalry Troop and saws active duty in France, rendering valuable service to his country. On returning home, he at once assisted his foster parents, and during the last year he went to Madrid, Nebraska, where he was engaged in farming, and during the last few months had accumulated some stock and other property as he was preparing to operate a farm, and on the day of his death wrote a letter home, asking for some of his tools and property be sent him, by which it was evident he had no thought of the sad ending of a young life. The weight of some sudden sorrow was too heavy to bear, hope fled and his life's chapter closed. The funeral services were under the direction of the Earl Forbes Post of the American Legion, Commander Frank Watson in charge. The funeral was from the Methodist church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., Charles P. Lang, the pastor, delivering the address, assisted by Chaplain W.B. Kline. Interment was made in the Fairmont cemetery, according to the ritual of the American Legion. Fred Bassett was in command of the firing squad, Emil Keller as color bearer, Harry Rose and Robert Palmer as escorts, while Elwood Bender sounded taps. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community in these sad hours. William Hottle, Spencer Bogeuries and daughter, Miss Grace; and Miss Peters of Elmwood were here to attend the funeral.
