Vern was born May 1, 1923 to Philo and Allie (Tucker) McAfee in rural Waterbury, NE. He attended Emerson High School. In 1943, Vern entered the United States Army. He married Dorothy Farrow, to this union, five children were born. Vern married Marie Farrow in 1969. After Marie’s passing, Vern married Ann Steiner in November of 1995 in Homer, NE. Vern was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed working with his hands while welding toys, weathervanes and windmills. He was able to fix anything and make it work again. Vern was a farmer for many years and worked for an implement dealer. He enjoyed reading, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Vern is survived by his son, Vernon LeRoy McAfee of AZ; step son, Gerald Sommer of IL; daughters, Karen Ray Druhn of Bloomindale, IL, Evon Jo (Keith) Buck of Tuscon, AZ; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Dorothy, Marie, Ann; son, Roger Lynn McAfee; daughter, Charlotte Irene Pierce; sisters, Julia Woods, Hannah Dittes, Ester Kosht; and brothers Merle McAfee and Ray McAfee."
