She was born Oct. 29, 1898, to James and Hilda Barrett Butler. Berna was born in a sod house in the sand hills of Nebraska near Broken Bow. Verna married Lewis Plotts in Broken Bow, in 1916. Verna homesteaded with her husband Lewis in treasure Co., MT., and ranched and farmed near Hysgam and Custer, MT. Verna and Lewis Plotts enjoyed a long association with Ralph and Mary Swanson as partners in a ranch near Custer. She was a resident of Custer until moving to Lynden in November of 1997. Mrs. Plotts was a member of the Congregational Church and Senior Citizens Center in Custer. She enjoyed gardening. She was the last surviving member of her family of seven. She is survived by her son, Gordon (Diane) Plotts of Lynden, and four grandchildren, Theresa, Cory, Joseph, and Maureen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Plotts in 1968. A vigil service will be held noon Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at St, Joseph Catholic Church in Lynden. Memorial Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug, 5, 1999, at the Congregational Church in Custer followed by a reception. The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Whatcom County or a local hospice in Montana. Arrangements by Westford Funeral Home.
