Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Presbyterian Church in Lyons, Neb., with the Rev. Gary Fugman officiating. Burial will be in Lyons Cemetery. Verne was born April 24, 1928, at rural Oakland, Neb., the son of Evald and Grace (Gallup) Anderson. He was raised in the Oakland, Lyons and Rosalie communities and attended elementary school at Bertha, Neb., two high school years at Lyons and graduated from Rosalie High School in 1945. Verne married Patricia Faye McCleerey in Lyons on June 1, 1958, and to this union, three children were born. He was engaged in farming in the Walthill-Rosalie community following four years of U.S. Navy enlistment in 1951. He served aboard two ships and spent 37 months outside the continental U.S. during the Korean Conflict. Verne received the Korean Conflict Medal with two battle stars, United Nations Medal, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and two commendations for Outstanding Sailor, attaining the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. He was discharged Dec. 4, 1954. Verne was a member of the Walthill United Methodist Church and the Lyons Presbyterian Church. He was enrolled in the cradle roll in the Oakland Baptist Church and at the age of 17, he was baptized with his grandmother in the Lyons Methodist Church. He was a Methodist Lay Leader for many years, president of Methodist Men's Club and held several other offices. Verne transferred to the Lyons Presbyterian Church, where he held the offices of Mariners, Purser and Logger. He was a Thurston County 4-H Leader, member of the Walthill American Legion and Lyons Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as a member and officer of the NFO and was on the Dawes Precinct Election Board. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Kimberly Luree (Sean) Connealy of Decatur, Neb. and Lynlee Faye (Tom) Medhi of Omaha, Neb. and a son, Kipley Verne (Susan) Anderson of Shenandoah, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Regan, Teala, Tahnee Connealy, Bryce, Brody and Faron Medhi and Payden, Makonn and Kealey Anderson; and a sister.
