She passed away Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, NE, at the age of 79 years. Maxine grew up in the Bertha community in central Burt County. She graduated from Lyons High School and Wayne State College. Maxine taught school for twenty-six years in several rural schools and in Bancroft, Nebraska. Maxine grew up in the Bertha community in central Burt County. She graduated from Lyons High School and Wayne State College. Maxine taught school for twenty-six years in several rural schools and in Bancroft, Nebraska. On June 30, 1950, Maxine and Lester Sandquist were united in marriage at Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons. They lived on and farmed the 1869 homestead of Lester's great grandfather, G. H. Erickson, until moving to Lyons in 1963. Maxine enjoyed local and family history and helped organize both the Northeaster Nebraska Genealogical Society and the Nebraska State Genealogical Society in 1977. Maxine served as the first Public Relations and Publicity Director of the State Society. The highlights of her membership in the Northeaster Nebraska Genealogical Society were assisting with two publishing projects, the Lyons Heritage book for the 1984 Lyons Centennial and the Lyons Cemetery book. She has assisted many with their family research needs, simply for the joy of helping others. She treasured the many friends she made through her work in genealogy. She dearly loved and cherished her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maxine was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons, the Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers' Association. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Verne Anderson. Survivors include her husband: Lester of Lyons; son: Christ Sandquist of Lincoln, NE; daughters & sons-in-law: Beverly and George Cook of Houston, TX, Sandra & Gayle Posvar of Lyons; four grandchildren: Tobias & Lori Posvar, Jill & Jason Watson, Cory Posvar and his fiancée; Sabre Zikmund, and Kevin Cook; four great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
