Description	:	Vernice Williams Carter, 95, of Hemingway, S.C., passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2010. Born April 29, 1915 in Georgetown County to the late Mattie Ruth Brown and Hughie Hazard Williams, she is the last survivor of four siblings, Itilene Miller, Thelma Watford, and Hughie M. Williams; as well as several half sisters and brothers, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Vernice will be greatly remembered for her kindness, joy, and love for family and friends which flowed out of her faith in Jesus Christ. Read More	Vernice Williams Carter, 95, of Hemingway, S.C., passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2010. Born April 29, 1915 in Georgetown County to the late Mattie Ruth Brown and Hughie Hazard Williams, she is the last survivor of four siblings, Itilene Miller, Thelma Watford, and Hughie M. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, John Dalmar Carter; and a son, Leonard Cochran Carter. She is survived by her daughter, Greta Carter Hawkins and her husband, Marion Hawkins, Jr., of Hartsville, S.C.; a grandson, Marion Hawkins, III of Columbia, S.C.; granddaughters, Elizabeth Hawkins Macdiarmid and her husband, Trey, of New Orleans, La., Greta Anne Hawkins Rowe and her husband, James, of Atlanta, Ga.; also four great grandchildren, Dargan Macdiarmid, Carter Macdiarmid, Graham Rowe, and Lyla Rowe. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Good Hope United Methodist Church, 7593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Hemingway, SC 29554, with burial in the church cemetery. Following the burial, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be sent to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 2236 Bethlehem Road, Hartsville, SC 29550 or Good Hope United Methodist Church, c/o Ruth Goude, Box 491, Hemingway, SC 29554. The family wishes to thank the staff of Morrell Nursing Home of Hartsville, S.C., for their care and support of Mrs. Carter. A very special heartfelt thanks to Gloria Fox for her loving care and service to Mrs. Carter. Also much gratitude to Nancy and Jimmy Thompson, Phyllis Lindh, and Mary Lee Phillips.
