Vernon was born in Barss Corner, a son of the Herman and Blanche DeLong. He was a member of the Barss Corner Baptist Church. Vernon was a rural mail driver from the Barss Corner Post Office for the past 37 years, giving up this position because of illness in February of this year. Vernon was born in Barss Corner, a son of the Herman and Blanche DeLong. He was a member of the Barss Corner Baptist Church. Vernon was a rural mail driver from the Barss Corner Post Office for the past 37 years, giving up this position because of illness in February of this year. He was noted for his many acts of kindnesses to the people on his mail route. Vernon was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, a friend to all, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Surviving are his wife, the former Marjorie MacKay; a son, Carroll; two grandchildren, Gregg and Christine; two sisters, Vivian (Mrs. Ralston Eisener); Jean (Mrs. Hubert MacKay); four brothers, Ottis, Harry, Carl and Laurie. The body rested at Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. Funeral service was held at the Barss Corner Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 30, 1987, Rev. Malcolm Beckett officiating. The hymn "Unto The Hills", a favourite of the deceased, was led by the choir and organist, Arthur Langille. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Ralph DeLong, James DeLong, Earlen Eisener, Wayne MacKay, David Langille, and Curtis Hirtle. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
