Funeral Home visitation will be from 11:00 AM-9:00 PM Thursday with family present from 7:00-9:00 PM. Vernon Duane Eberhart, the son of Emma (Schnaible) and George Eberhart, was born on March 10, 1930 in rural McPherson County. He attended farm school in Campbell County. As a young man he helped on the family farm. Vernon served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict, being inducted December 14, 1951. Following his honorable discharge on December 2, 1953, he returned to South Dakota. Vernon married Aleana Ehresman on January 28, 1954 at the Hosmer Reformed Church. In 1954, they purchased and took over operations of the Jacob Ehresman farm 5 miles northeast of Hosmer. They lived and farmed there until May 1993 when they moved to Aberdeen. Since May 2003, Vernon lived at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. Vernon (Vern) was a member of the Hosmer United Congregational Church. He was a dairy farmer and very proud of his dairy herd and operation. Vern and his daughters knew every dairy cow by their given names. This way of life was the love of his life. Vern also loved to wheel and deal for his pickups, cars, tractors and farm machinery. He was a very fun loving fellow, never knew a stranger, loved to laugh and tell stories and certainly enjoyed attending old time dances with his wife Aleana. In later years, Vern would light up with a huge smile each time that his children and grandchildren would visit with him. Family surviving Vernon include his three daughters, Delene (Dale) Schutz of Hosmer, Shelly (Brian) Aman of Grapevine, TX and Peggy (Richard) Mohr of Aberdeen, SD. Five grandchildren Tiffany (Jason) Roberts of Aledo, TX, Dustin (Therese) Schutz of Omaha, NE, Drew Schutz of Brookings, SD, Lance Mohr of Aberdeen and Brady Mohr of Aberdeen. Two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Roberts and Cayden Roberts of Aledo, TX. Also surviving Vernon are his sisters, Ione Eberhart of the Avera Health Care Center in Eureka, SD, and Loretta Rau of the Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. He was preceded in death by his wife Aleana on November 18, 2002, his mother on June 13, 1977, his father on January 8, 1985, his brother Ruben Eberhart on January 21, 2003, and his brother Leslie on August 8, 1960. Honorary bearers will be the Hosmer Senior Citizen's Home Staff. Casket bearers will be Vernon's grandsons and two nephews Dennis Rau of Thailand and Kevin Rau of Aberdeen. Lien Funeral Home of Bowdle is in charge of arrangements.
