Simons which was leaking so was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth ship) ~ (Military Service No. 17169953) ~ (rank of Pvt: discharge papers signed by Archie Sorenson, Major) He married Conley Harder on May 15, 1948, in Ida Grove, and the couple farmed in the Ida Grove area. Survivors include his wife; 3 sons, Michael of Omaha, Nebraska; Brian of Ida Grove, and Brad of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter, Myra Dutton of Idyllwild, California; 3 grandchildren, Marissa, Tara, and Sterling Dutton; 4 sisters, Merita Reiff of Ida Grove, Ione of Phoenix, Az., Mary Lou of Aberdeen, S.D., and Roseann Van Boxtel of Rancho Santa Fe, California; and 3 brothers, Bob of Parker, AZ., Delmar of Ida Grove, and Henry of Storm Lake, Iowa. ---------------- Service: WW II 101st Airborne, 1941-1945 VERNON WOLTERMAN He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in France in December of 1944 and January of 1945. He was a paratrooper dropped from an airplane in enemy France on "D Day" June 6. He was in combat for 2 years, 4 months. While in the city of Cologne, Germany making all premises secure, he ran up the steps of the Cit Hall and took down the German flag and replaced it with the USA Flag.
