TRAINED BRIEFLY IN U.S. AND SENT TO EUROPE FOR TRAINING AWAITING "D" DAY. HE DROVE AN AMBULANCE AS A MEDIC. HE LEFT IDA GROVE AS PART OF A GROUP OF 7 SETS OF BROTHERS. THEIR OUTFIT LED THE WAR THROUGH ITALY AND N. AFRICA. THE BROTHER WHO WENT WITH HIM IN WORLD WAR II WAS EDWIN G. WOLTERMAN. ALL OF THE GROUP FROM IDA GROVE, IOWA, RETURNED AFTER THE WAR. He served in the 109th Medical Battalion of the 34th Infantry Division (Red Bull) and was awarded Bronze Stars and numerous campaign and theatre ribbons for his service as a combat medic during the North African and Italian campaigns. ------------------------------------- He was born near Breda, Iowa, to Annie & George Wolterman, and attended school there. Survivors include his wife, 2 children, and 5 brothers: Vernon and Delmar of Ida Grove, Iowa; Edwin G. Wolterman of Arizona; Robert of Parker, AZ.; Henry of Storm Lake, Iowa; and 4 sisters: Merita Reiff of Ida Grove, Ione Fulcher of Phoenix, Roseann Van Boxtel of Rancho Santa Fe, CA.; and Mary Lou Nesseim of Aberdeen, SD. Preceeding him in death were brothers: Carl Wolterman of Ida Grove, George, Jr. of Le Mars, and Richard as an infant.
