He married Anna Mathison on Aug. 25, 1952, at Mission Hill. She died Aug. 22, 1963. He married Maxine White Ashmore on Jan. 8, 1966, at Vermillion. She died July 3, 1998. He farmed in the Gayville and Volin areas until 1969, then moved to Vermillion and operated Vern's Feed and Seed Store for three years. He then worked as a custodian for the Vermillion School District. He was a member of the Vermillion I.O.O.F. Lodge, Gayville Legion andVermillion Eagles. He was a member of the Vermillion United MethodistChurch. Mr. Halverson is survived by one son, Harlan, Dakota Dunes; three step-sons, Marlin Ashmore, Omaha, NE, Merle Ashmore, Valley, NE, and Douglas Ashmore, Norfolk, NE; one step-daughter, Marilyn Messler, Huntington Beach, CA; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Halverson's name.
