Memorials may be directed to the Vermillion Senior Citizens Center, the United Methodist Church or Vermillion Area Hospice. She was born Dec. 1, 1913, at rural Wakonda to Fred and Mabel (Sweeley) White. She attended Lodi rural school and one year at Wakonda High. She was a cook at Southeastern Dakota Nursing Home and Dakota Hospital in Vermillion for 20 years. She also cooked at the Vermillion Middle School for eight years. She was a member of Vermillion Rebekah Lodge No. 28, where she was a past Noble Grand. She served on the Degree Team, Vermillion Eagles Auxiliary and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Vermillion. She married Ralph Ashmore Sept. 27, 1935, at Vermillion. He died Nov.11, 1961. She married Vernon Halverson Jan. 8, 1966, in Vermillion. She was a volunteer at the Dakota Care Center for 17 years and was nominated for Volunteer of the Year in 1996. She is survived by her husband Vernon, Vermillion; three sons, MarlinAshmore, Omaha, NE; Merle Ashmore, Valley, NE; Douglas Ashmore, Norfolk, NE; a daughter, Marilyn Messler, Kenesaw, NE; stepson, Harlan Halverson, McCook Lake; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Nelson, Bonanza, OR.
