Funeral Service: 11:00 am October 03, 2006 at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, IA Interment: October 03, 2006 at East Side Cemetery, Elkader, IA, with Military Honors Vernon John Max Hoth, 76, of Farmersburg, died Friday, September 29, 2006, at the Central Community Hospital in Elkader, following a sudden illness. Vernon was the son of Elmer and Esther (Bahls) Hoth and was born June 8, 1930, on a farm south of Clayton Center in Read Township. He was baptized August 31, 1930, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Garnavillo by Rev. K. Wm. Braun. He was confirmed April 12, 1944, at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Elkader by Rev. Paul Kitterer. He attended Hanover and Bowden Schools. Vernon entered the U.S. Marine Corps on April 29, 1952, and was discharged as rank of Corporal on February 25, 1954. On May 10, 1956, he was united in marriage with Geneva Marmann. Four children were born to this union. Farming was his life. Vernon was a member of the St. Olaf Legion Unit 388 and a Farmersburg Township trustee. He sold Archer Oil for several years. He enjoyed fishing, card clubs, gardening and doing woodworking. Vernon enjoyed spending time with his family and he was blessed to celebrate fifty years of marriage with his loving wife. They went on several vacations, recently returning from a seven day trip out west. Vernon and Gen enjoyed playing bingo and pinochle. Survivors include his wife, Geneva; his four children and their spouses, Karen and Don Martindale, Monona, Brad and Brenda Hoth, Farmersburg, Deb and Jerry Neuhaus, Monona and Jim and Kathleen Hoth, Marion; ten grandchildren, Nathan Martindale, Cedar Rapids, Ryan Martindale, Monona, Brett Hoth, Dodgeville, WI, Kelly Hoth and fiance, Jake Shaw, Farmersburg; Chad Hoth, Farmersburg, Justin Neuhaus, Monona; Joshua Neuhaus, Cedar Falls; Stacey Neuhaus, Cedar Rapids, Branden and Jamie Hoth, Marion, and one great-granddaughter, Ashley Shaw, Farmersburg; two sisters, Marlene Marmann, Elkader and Ila Mae (Ronald) Mueller, Monona; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Janice and Jim Eno, St. Olaf, Elvera Palas, Elkader, Ray Marmann, Jr. and special friend, Lu Phelps, Farmersburg, Nancy Marmann, Hiawatha, Betty Marmann, Elkader, Don and Shirley Marmann, Farmersburg; one aunt, Anita Staade, Garnavillo and many relatives and friends. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Ray and Pearl Marmann; one grandson, Danny Martindale; one brother, Eugene Hoth; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Palas, Margaret Marmann, Vurnell Marmann, Everett Marmann and Alan Dale Marmann.
