Read More	Source: The Pioneer Republican 11/30/1961 Vernon Parks Dies In Missouri Crash Vernon Parks, 51, owner and operator of Parks Construction Co., Marengo, was killed in a one-car accident near Quincy, Ill., late Monday night, Nov. 27. Parks, a native of the Victor area, was well known throughout the area. He and Charles (Carl) Eichacker, Homestead, were goose hunting when the accident happened. They had left here Thursday night. The men were on their home way, with Eichacker driving Parks' pickup, about 10:30 p.m., when the truck went out of control and hit a bridge. The car hit the right side of the steel-girder bridge, then upset and crashed into the bridge rail on the left side. The accident was about six miles south of Quincy in Missouri. Carl Sekel of Seckel Ambulance and Leo Hoover of the Hoover Funeral Home, returned the body. Seckel said he talked with people who were at the scene of the accident and who said Parks lived about an hour. He suffered internal injuries and was dead on arrival at the hospital. Eichacker, 52, was hospitalized overnight and released Tuesday. He wasn't seriously hurt. The truck was a total loss. Vernon Leroy Parks was born in Iowa county Aug. 6, 1910, the son of William Hadley and Lorene McHarg Park, attended rural school and Victor high school. In 1945 he was married to Frances Bruere of Des Moines. They have lived in Marengo since their marriage. Prior to his marriage he spent several years in construction and aviation in Central America. He is survived by his wife; his mother, Mrs. Lorena Park, now living with one of the four surviving sisters, Mrs. A. M. Huston in Des Moines; four sisters, Mrs. Huston; Mrs. Alex Robinson, Des Moines and Florida; Mrs. Clarence Border, Ladora and Florida and Mrs. George Stratton, Winterhaven, Fla. One sister, Mrs. Ben Hart, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m., in the Hoover Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Robert Bowers of the Victor Methodist church. Interment will be in Victor cemetery.
