Description	:	GLENDIVE, MONTANA: Vernon Lyle "Curly" Sprague, age 74, formerly of Spearfish, South Dakota, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home. A private family service will be held at a later date. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Curly was born on July 12, 1936, in Wood, South Dakota the son of Harold and Agnes (Richards) Sprague. Curly was born on July 12, 1936, in Wood, South Dakota the son of Harold and Agnes (Richards) Sprague. He was educated in Rapid City, South Dakota graduating from Rapid City High School with the class of 1954. Curly entered the United States Army in 1956, he was honorably discharged from the military in 1959. In 1958, Curly married Muriel Ertl in Rapid City, where he worked for the Police Department. After his employment with the Rapid City Police Department, Curly worked for the South Dakota Highway Patrol. As a result of promotions that he received with the highway patrol, the family lived throughout the state of South Dakota. He retired from the highway patrol in 1986. In 1987, Curly was elected as Custer County Sheriff, a position that he held until 1990. Curly then went into business for himself for five years.Curly enjoyed artwork, woodworking, horses, camping and back packing. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Muriel Sprague and his daughter, Laurie (Tony) Stark all of Miles City, Montana; his sons, Russell (Denise) Sprague of Rapid City and James (Dani) Sprague of Sturgis, South Dakota; thirteen grandchildren; one brother, Duane (Helen) Sprague of Caro, Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews.
