Rasmussen Funeral Home in Ravenna is in charge of arrangements. Vernon Reinertson was born July 7, 1932, in Grand Island, to J. Victor and Teresa (Drogseth) Johnson. Because his mother died shortly after his birth, he was adopted by Oscar and Esther (Johnson) Reinertson. He was baptized as a Lutheran in his parents’ home on Aug. 3, 1932 and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church his entire life. He attended rural school at Sweetwater 68 and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1949. He began farming with his father and cousin, Donald Johnson until 1953, when he was called to serve during the Korean War and was sent to France for 18 months. He was released from the service on Dec. 31, 1954. He continued farming until 1994 when he retired. He married Beverly Kjos Sandager on Oct. 24, 1981, in Windom, Minn. They made their home near Ravenna and remained there until May 2012, when they sold their house and acreage and moved to Seneca Sunrise in Ravenna. After retiring he and Bev enjoyed several years of traveling. He enjoyed reading, watching TV and sports events. He especially enjoyed repairing and restoring old John Deere tractors. He was active in many areas, including Faith Lutheran Church, Sweetwater Cemetery, agricultural committees, Ravenna Lions Club, Nebraska Lions Foundation, Farmers Cooperative Association, VFW Post 5820 and Ravenna Economic Corp, and volunteered and supported several organizations including Habitat for Humanity. Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Ravenna, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
