Verges Jilek was born in Bohemia June 6, 1844, and died May 18, 1908, aged 64 years. She was married to John Podhajsky in 1866 and they lived together a happy life until some thirteen years ago when God thought best to part them and called Mr. Podhajsky to the world beyond and left his wife to live longer with her dear children whom she loved so faithfully. Ten children were born to this union. They are as follows: Mrs. Joseph Nechanicky, of Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. F. Pusteosky, of Vining; Mrs. Joseph Sevcik, Mrs. F. Zmolek, James, Frank, John, Louis, Joseph and Albert, living in this neighborhood, all of whom attended the funeral except the first mentioned. The funeral services were held Wednesday, May 20, at 10 a. m. at the St. Wenceslaus church, Rev. Joseph Gregor officiating. A large crowd of relatives and friends came to show their last affection and kindness to the deceased and say last "farewell" and to sympathize with the heart broken children. Interment was at St. Wenceslaus cemetery.
