Vesta was born in rural Humboldt, Kansas, on October 12, 1929, the daughter of Raymond and Myles (Stranghorner) Leroy. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1947. She graduated from Neosho County Community College. On May 17, 1953 she married Robert Washburn in Chanute, Kansas. She taught school for approximately 4 years, then became a homemaker. Vesta was born in rural Humboldt, Kansas, on October 12, 1929, the daughter of Raymond and Myles (Stranghorner) Leroy. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1947. She graduated from Neosho County Community College. On May 17, 1953 she married Robert Washburn in Chanute, Kansas. She taught school for approximately 4 years, then became a homemaker. Vesta enjoyed spending time at home with her family, cooking for her family, and working with her flowers. Survivors include her husband Robert, of the home; three sons, Mike and wife Deborah Washburn, El Dorado KS, Keith Washburn, Chanute, KS, and Larry and wife Diana Washburn, Chanute, KS; one daughter, Jolene and husband Bruce Remsberg, Pittsburg KS; two brothers, Gary and wife, Shirley Leroy, Bob and wife, Pat Leroy, all of Chanute, KS; a sister in-law Glenda Leroy of Chanute, KS; seven grandchildren, Scott Jesseph, Chanute, KS, Robert Washburn, Austin, TX, Brett Remsberg, Wichita, KS, Daniel Washburn, Pittsburg, KS, Gregory Washburn, Chanute, KS, Christina Bailey, Chanute, KS, and Katie Todd, El Dorado, KS; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother Bill Leroy. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Chanute, KS. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, KS. Memorials in her name may be made to Tri-Valley Developmental Service, or Harry Hynes Hospice, and may be left at the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel, Chanute, KS is in charge of arrangements. ************************
