Ashmun, 87, a 60-year resident and orchardist, died Monday evening, March 18, 1996, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. Mr. Ashmun was born Aug. 1, 1908, at Fremont, Neb., the son of Charles and Aurel (Bragg) Ashmun. Ashmun, 87, a 60-year resident and orchardist, died Monday evening, March 18, 1996, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. Mr. Ashmun was born Aug. 1, 1908, at Fremont, Neb., the son of Charles and Aurel (Bragg) Ashmun. At an early age, he moved with his family to Huron, S.D., where he attended school and was graduated from Huron High School. He then attended Huron College for two years. In 1936, he moved to the Lake Chelan area, where he was employed in orchards in Manson. On June 21, 1939, he was married to E. Marjorie Hogan at Puyallup. For many years, he owned and operated an orchard, participating in 55 apple harvests until his retirement in 1990. His first wife preceded him in death in 1983. He was married to Faye Eichhorn on March 18, 1984, at Olympia. Mr. Ashmun served as fire chief of Chelan County Fire District No. 5, at Manson for 25 years. He was honored as Manson's Citizen of the Year (Kiwanis) and also served as grand marshal of the Manson Apple Blossom Parade. Mr. Ashmun was a member of Chelan Valley Lodge No. 118, F.&A.M.; Knights Templar; El Katif Shrine; Silver Star Chapter 93, O.E.S.; Manson Grange; Manson Kiwanis; and the Retired Fire Chiefs of Washington. Survivors include his wife, Faye, of the home; two sons, Charles of Kenmore and John of Redmond; a daughter, Elizabeth Pettit of Wainae, Hawaii; a stepson, David Eichhorn of Shelton; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Vincentini of Manson and Joyce Eichhorn of Olympia; a sister, Aurel Stuelpnagel of Yankton, S.D.; six grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
