Survivors include his wife, Lois; a son, Mark (Cathy) Mowrey of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Linda (Charles) Zemp, Edisto Island, S. C., Cindy (David) Lycett of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren, and a sister, Ethel Harkins of Maquoketa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Ronald, a brother, William, and a sister, Theola. Victor J. Mowrey was born July 11,1917 at Anamosa, the son of Chancy and Addie Webster Mowrey. He attended the Anamosa Community Schools. He later was employed at the Anamosa Creamery and operated a cream route. On Aug. 1, 1940, he married Lois Gerdes at Maquoketa. The couple lived in Anamosa where Victor operated the DX service station. The couple later moved to Monticello where he was employed at Energy Manufacturing. He started a trucking company with Dale McDonald. In the mid '70s they sold their trucks and he was employed at Wood Products until he retired. During his retirement, he stayed busy building fences. He was a member of the Monticello Fire Department for 19 years. He had also served as a deacon at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
