Description	:	Victor W. Peitz, 94, of Houghton, died Saturday, October 4, 2014, at his home. Born June 25, 1920, in West Point, he was the son of Steven and Anna Stuekerjuergen Peitz. On September 18, 1948, he married Eileen Groene in West Point. Mr. Peitz graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Houghton in 1937. He then worked in administration at Day and Zimmerman in Burlington. Born June 25, 1920, in West Point, he was the son of Steven and Anna Stuekerjuergen Peitz. On September 18, 1948, he married Eileen Groene in West Point. Mr. Peitz graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Houghton in 1937. He then worked in administration at Day and Zimmerman in Burlington. He enlisted in the Army in 1942, and was assigned to the Air Force Technical Training Command and later to Headquarters of Personnel Redistribution Command. In 1946, he was honorably discharged with a rank of Master Sergeant. After the war, he returned to the Houghton area to begin farming and in time to join with the community in the reconstruction of St. John's Church. He and Eileen lived on and operated a grain and livestock farm for over 50 years. While a farmer, he maintained a Monsanto seed dealership and was an agent for Grinnell Mutual and Lee County Mutual Insurance Companies. He served on the board of directors of the latter for 29 years. He was a charter member of the Houghton Knights of Columbus Council #3905; he served as Grand Knight, as well as other offices. He was a member of the West Point American Legion Post #668, the St. John's Holy Name Society, the NRA, Farm Bureau, and the Iowa Corn Grower and Soybean Associations. After retirement, he and Eileen were instrumental in the establishment of Stuke Iowa Plastics, where he was a lifetime director. Victor's favorite pastimes were dancing and listening to music. He also enjoyed bridge and euchre with lifelong friends. He loved to visit and talk about his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed morning coffee with his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Eileen Peitz, one son, Greg Peitz of Martinsville, Virginia, three daughters, Donna Peitz of Iowa City, Iowa, Julianne Svingen of Omaha, Nebraska, and Michelle Jordan of Clear Lake, Iowa, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one sister, Marcie Reynolds, and nieces and nephews. Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary recited at 3:00 p.m. The family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. There will be a Christian wake service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The mass of Christian burial for Victor Peitz will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton with Father Bruce DeRammelaere as Celebrant. Burial with full military rights by the West Point American Legion will be held in St. John's Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Church Cemetery or the Houghton Knights of Columbus Council #3905. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.schmitzlynkfuneralhome.com.
