Description	:	Vincent and Laverna were active in a variety of different types of farming. From 1944 to 1964 along with grain farming, was a hog farrowing and finishing operation, and a large flock of laying hens. In 1948, they expanded and added a dairy farming operation, milking 40 Holstein cows and breeding replacements to the herd. They discontinued the dairy operation in 1958, but continued with the hog and poultry operation, along with feeding beef cattle, until January of 1964 when a disastrous fire destroyed the majority of the livestock facilities on the farm including a lot of livestock, feed and... Read More	Vincent and Laverna were active in a variety of different types of farming. From 1944 to 1964 along with grain farming, was a hog farrowing and finishing operation, and a large flock of laying hens. In 1948, they expanded and added a dairy farming operation, milking 40 Holstein cows and breeding replacements to the herd. They discontinued the dairy operation in 1958, but continued with the hog and poultry operation, along with feeding beef cattle, until January of 1964 when a disastrous fire destroyed the majority of the livestock facilities on the farm including a lot of livestock, feed and equipment. A major rebuilding effort took place in 1964 resulting in an automated beef cattle feeding system complete with Harvestore silos, covered feed bunk, auger feeder, paved feed lots, etc. A successful beef cattle feeding enterprise existed until they sold the farm in the fall of 1979 and retired. Vincent and Laverna moved to Traer in 1980 where they currently reside. They reacquired the family farm in 1986 and are currently renting it to another Clutier area farmer. Vincent belongs to the Men's Catholic Order of Foresters, Tama County Farm Bureau and enjoys playing golf and watching all other sports activities. He likes to repair and fix things and work in the shop. Laverna is a member of The National Catholic Society of Foresters, the Immaculate Conception Rosary Society, and a past member of the Oneida Round About Club. She enjoys gardening, caring for flowers and plants and likes to sew. Vincent and Laverna both enjoy dancing, traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. They are members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier, Iowa. by Mr. & Mrs. Vincent G. Caslvka Funeral services for Vincent Caslavka, 82, of Traer, and formerly of Clutier were held Monday morning, Feb. 26, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clutier, officiated by Father John Tilp. Burial was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, rural Clutier. A memorial fund has been established. Vincent died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo following an extended illness. Vincent George Caslavka was born May 29, 1918, on a farm in rural Clutier, IA, the son of Vincent A. and Mary (Vorba) Caslavka. Vincent attended Clutier Public Schools where he graduated in 1934. On June 27, 1944, he was united in marriage to Laverna Schmidt at St. Patrick's Church in Watkins, Iowa. Vincent and Laverna made their home farming northeast of Clutier. He received numerous awards for growing Pioneer Seed Corn and topped the market at the Chicago stockyards for beef cattle. Following their retirement in 1980 they moved to a home at 804 Crestview Drive, Traer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clutier; Catholic Order of Foresters and the Tama County Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife Laverna, Traer; two sons: Dennis Caslavka, Excelsior, MN and David (Maureen) Caslavka, Pittsburg, CA; two daughters: Jennifer (Mrs. John) Stoltenberg, Wayzata, MN and Joleen (Mrs. Jeff) Hall, Excelsior, MN; a brother Warren (Delores) Caslavka, Traer and five grandchildren.
