Death’s Call Comes to Vining Crawford, At Nearly Four Score Years. Had Resided in This Neighborhood for About a Quarter of a Century – Funeral Set for This Afternoon. Early yesterday morning Vining Crawford, a resident of Chico since 1880, passed to his reward after a long illness, at the ripe age of 77 years, his demise being principally due to the infirmities of age. For seven or eight years, Mr. Crawford had been enfeebled to the degree that he was unable to follow but the lightest of labor and had been gradually failing in health. Mr. Crawford came to California in 1869 and for several years lived in the Santa Clara valley, coming to the neighborhood of Chico about twenty-five years ago. Here for many years he followed farming with varying success, until compelled to desist through failing health. Mr. Crawford was a native of Ohio, where he first saw the light in 1828. He leaves to mourn his passing a wife and five children, three sons and two daughters, as follows: J.W., J.L. and C.E. Crawford of Chico, Mrs. J.W. Mills of Marysville, and Mrs. J.H. Boyd of Chico. The funeral will be held from the family residence, 1339 Fourth street, corner of Walnut, at 2 p.m. today, Rev. W.G. White of the Presbyterian church officiating.
