Description	:	Vinson Clay was the son of James and Sarah (Rolley) Goodwin. James W.P. Goodwin married Sarah Rawley on September 17, 1850, in Putnam County, Indiana. In the 1870 Census for Monroe County, Iowa, James and Sarah were living with their family. In the 1880 Census for Jefferson County, Iowa, Sarah Goodwin, divorced, was living with her daughter and son-in-law, David and Casilla McCombs. In 1885, Sarah Goodwin, divorced, was living in Monroe County, Iowa, with the McCombs. I last see Sarah, age 70, living with the McCombs in the 1900 Census for Oakley,... In 1885, Sarah Goodwin, divorced, was living in Monroe County, Iowa, with the McCombs. I last see Sarah, age 70, living with the McCombs in the 1900 Census for Oakley, Logan County, Kansas. --------------- Vinson married Nancy Eslinger on September 21, 1871, in Ottumwa, Iowa. Clay and Nancy are in the 1880 Census for Henry County, Iowa, with three sons: Albert A., age 7; Elmer E., age 6; and William J.S., age 7 months. It appears that Vinson Clay and Nancy were briefly divorced and remarried. They are together in the 1910 Census for Wapello County, Iowa, as husband and wife. This notice appeared in the "Ottumwa Tri-Weekly Courier," Saturday, October 29, 1910, Page 4, Column 6: "Divorces were among the actions settled in district court yesterday afternoon by Judge F.W. Eichelberger. Decrees were granted to Nancy E. Goodwin and Goldie Lemons. The former was released from her marriage vows to Vinson C. Goodwin and the latter...." Vinson and Nancy were remarried in Ottumwa on February 21, 1911. --------------- Obituary From "Iowa City Press Citizen," Friday, January 13, 1922: CLAY GOODWIN DIES ON BIRTHDAY. Clay Goodwin, in an Iowa City hospital, celebrated his seventieth birthday and died a few hours later, Wednesday. He was 70. Mr. Goodwin resided in Ottumwa where burial will be made.
