Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington in charge of arrangements. A private family committal service was held in the Wynot Cemetery on Monday. Pallbearers were Holly Wittle, Abby Varga, mandy Martin, Grant Gowery and Ty Gowery. Vi was born on May 6, 1914 on a farm near Hartington to Samueland Luella (Harris) Schager. She grew up in the Wynot area and attended Samuel's School of Cosmetology in Sioux City, Iowa. She spent many years teaching cosmetoloogy and also worked as a beauty operator in Sioux City. Vi Married Leonard O. Lewis on July 26, 1940 at Lawreceburg, Indiana. They made their home in Sioux City. From 1955 to 1965 they lived in San Diego and Napa, California, until taking an early retirement and moving to Laurel, Nebraska, where they owned and operated Vi aand Len's Dry Goods Storew until 1975. They moved to Donna, Texas, in 1983 and lived there until movong to Bloomfield in 1993. Vi has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Bloomfield since June 17, 2004. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Vi loved to play golf and was noted for her chocolate cakes and loved to visit with her friends and spend time with her family. Viola is survived by her daughter Darlene Gowery, and her husband, Darrell of Wynot; 2 grandchhildren, Randy Gowery of Minneapolis, Mn.; and Kim and Alan Rainbolt of Marble Falls, Texas; 6 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was proceded in death by her parents, husband, Leonard, on April 18, 1998 at the age of 87, 3 brothers, Lloyd, Leo, and Donald Schager. -------------------------
