Viola was born October 3, 1911, in Dayton Township, Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of August J. and Mary (Lamprecht) Buhr. She was baptized November 5, 1911, and was confirmed March 28, 1926, at St. John's Lutheran-Buck Creek. She attended Buck Creek Parochial School through the 8th grade. Read More	Viola Louise Bierman, 98, of West Union, formerly of Waverly, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society in West Union. Viola was born October 3, 1911, in Dayton Township, Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of August J. and Mary (Lamprecht) Buhr. She was baptized November 5, 1911, and was confirmed March 28, 1926, at St. John's Lutheran-Buck Creek. She attended Buck Creek Parochial School through the 8th grade. On October 13, 1936, she was united in marriage to Charlie Bierman at the Trinity American Lutheran Church in Waterloo. The couple lived and farmed around the Sumner area for many years. In 1960, they moved to Waverly. Charlie died on November 16, 1995, and Viola continued to live in Waverly until moving to the Good Samaritan Society in West Union in 1998. Viola was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Waverly, where she was involved with the Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and refinishing furniture with her husband. She most enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters; Janice (Don) Durscher of Elgin, Iowa, and Janet Borcherding of Naples, Florida, one son; Arlin (Connie) Bierman of Cedar Falls, Iowa, 14 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; sister-in-law LaVonna Bolte. She is preceded in death by her husband Charlie, her parents, daughter and son-in-law Verla (Bob) Ganske, five sisters; Hilda (Christ) Meyer, Ella Buhr, Elsie Buhr, Margaret (Walter) Boldt, Erma (Edwin) Buchholz, six brothers; Reinhardt Buhr, Clarence Buhr, Leslie (Esther) Buhr, Edwin (Glenna) Buhr, Walter Buhr, Albert (Wanda) Buhr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2009, at Grace Baptist Church in Waverly with Rev. Jon Hennings officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
