Description	:	GARRETT, VIOLA M.—The community was saddened early Wednesday morning when it learned of the sudden passing of Viola M. Bender Garrett, daughter of Joseph C. Bender and Iliza Keim Bender. She passed away at her apartment while sitting in a chair watching television. Viola was born June 2, 1894, at Strang, Neb. She passed away at her home in Geneva, February 26, 1963, at the age of 68 years, 8 months and 24 days. She had been about her usual duties until the time of her passing. Viola was left motherless from the time she... Read More	GARRETT, VIOLA M.—The community was saddened early Wednesday morning when it learned of the sudden passing of Viola M. Bender Garrett, daughter of Joseph C. Bender and Iliza Keim Bender. She passed away at her apartment while sitting in a chair watching television. Viola was born June 2, 1894, at Strang, Neb. She passed away at her home in Geneva, February 26, 1963, at the age of 68 years, 8 months and 24 days. She had been about her usual duties until the time of her passing. Viola was left motherless from the time she was two years old until she was six, when her father re-married. She attended school in Strang and Geneva. Viola had been in the employment of her brother-in-law, Monroe Heisey, at the store in Geneva more than 53 years. During her years in the store she made many friends by her kindliness and her patience with children in their small purchases. She became a member of the First Congregational church in Geneva when she was a young lady. She taught Sunday school in the primary department for many years. She was a member of the Women’s Fellowship of the congregational church and the Degree of Honor Kensington. Viola remained in the family home until she was united in marriage to Harvey B. Garrett, February 14, 1944, at Belleville, Kas. They made their home in Geneva, where she lived until the time of her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband in March, 1961, parents, step-mother, infant brother and sister, and one grandson. She leaves to mourn her passing her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe (Laura) Heisey; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bender, nieces and nephews. Francis and Ruth Wells, Kenneth Heisey, Leta Heisey Ritchey, Robert, George, Rodney and JoAnn Bender; four step-children, Mrs. Jesse (Kathleen) Richards, Harlen Garrett, Mrs. Warren (Florence) Lefever and Richard Brower; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
