Description	:	Viola M. Johnson, 94, of Grand Island, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017, at Cottonwood Estates in Central City. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Fullerton Community Church in Fullerton with Reverend Janice Farrell officiating. A private family inurnment will follow in the afternoon at Fullerton Cemetery in Fullerton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton is serving the family. Viola was born April 6, 1923 to Ernest and Alice (LeCount) Fulleton in Pablo, Montana. Her family moved to Hoquiam, Washington, where her father worked in the lumber industry. She graduated from Hoquiam High School. After graduation, Viola worked at Fort Lewis Army Base during World War II. While there, she met Donald A. Watters of Fullerton, NE, who was serving in the United States Navy. They married and to this union, two daughters were born, Lynda and Carol. The family then moved to Nance County, Nebraska in 1951 to farm with Donald’s father, Sam Watters. Don passed away in 1959. On November 1, 1962, Viola married Robert (Bob) A. Johnson. With this marriage came Bob’s two sons, Robert (Robin) and Donald Johnson. Viola and Robert moved from Fullerton to Grand Island in 1966 where they lived for many years. Robert passed away in 2004. Viola worked as a bookkeeper/receptionist until she retired. She was a good seamstress and made her daughters’ clothes when they were young. She also enjoyed knitting. She hand-knitted beautiful sweaters and afghans. Later, she did her knitting with a machine. Painting was also a hobby of hers. One year, she won a blue ribbon at the Hall County Fair for one of her paintings. She also loved shopping (and returning). For a time, she volunteered at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island. She is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Dennis) McCoig of Fullerton; sons, Robert “Robin” (Ann) Johnson of Olympia, WA and Donald (Jenifer) Johnson of Omaha; eight grandchildren, Lorrie (Mike) Robinson of Genoa, Kristin (David) George of Spearfish, SD, Scott (Jennifer) McCoig of Omaha, Seth (Wendy) Graves of Battle Creek, MI, Ryan Johnson of Seattle, WA, Christopher (Mindy) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, Justin (Marianna) Johnson of Omaha, and Joel Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; and 20 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Watters and Robert Johnson; daughter, Carol Graves; her parents; and brothers and sisters-in law, Clarence (Letha) Fulleton, Bryle (Barbara) Fulleton, Donald Fulleton, and Ivan Fulleton.
