Hoover, 28, committed suicide by hanging herself with a clothesline in the cellar of her home at 123 E. Fourth Street, Saturday. Mrs. Hoover's body was found less than an hour after the act by her husband, Theo A. Hoover, local meat market proprietor, who told the officers he discovered her absence upon awakening after he and his wife had retired. Highly nervous after the discovery, Mr. Hoover was unable to give any reason for his wife's act, other than her hear of ill health. Mrs. Hoover, although subject to extreme nervousness, had not appeared in other than good spirits Friday, neighbors stated. In the afternoon her stepmother, Mrs. Harry M. Hetterly, of Thurmont, and a friend visited at the home. In the evening Mr. Hoover came home from work at his usual hour and had supper. After conversation with his wife and their two children, Nancy Lee, 2 and Betty Jane, the baby, he began working on his accounts. When he prepared to go to bed about midnight, Mr. Hoover told neighbors, his wife had already put the children to bed and retired. He awoke between 1:30 and 2 o'clock, he stated, and noting her absence, thought she had gone to look at the children. He found their room dark, he stated, and saw a light downstairs. Going downstairs, he was guided by another light to the cellar, where he found his wife's body hanging from a rafter. She had fastened the clothes rope and jumped from a small packing case. Hoover called G. William Trout, a neighbor, who notified authorities. Dr. Hamilton J. Slusher said that Mrs. Hoover had been dead about an hour. Justice Patrick M. Schnauffer gave a verdict of suicide. Sheriff Hiltner and Officers Phebus and Dorsey also took part in the investigation. The body was removed to the funeral establishment of M. L. Creager and Son, Thurmont, where it was prepared for burial. Besides her husband and two children, Mrs. Hoover is survived by her father and step-mother, and two sisters, Mrs. Donald Miller, Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Maude Weddle, Woodsboro. Mrs. Hoover was the daughter of Harry Hetterly and the late Annie Wheat Hetterly. Her mother died twenty-six years ago from burns received when her clothing caught fire from a stove. Mrs. Hoover, a twenty-month-old baby at the time, was cared for and reared by an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hetterly, Thurmont. It was understood she and her family had planned to attend Trinity Reformed Church in Thurmont Sunday and take dinner afterward with Mr. and Mrs. Hetterly. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon, 1:30 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hetterly, Thurmont. Interment in the Thurmont United Brethren cemetery."
