Description	:	Viola Bertha Marie Schmidt (1913 - 1999) Viola Bertha Marie Schmidt was born November 24, 1913, the daughter of George L. and Clara Petersen Schmidt. She died at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at the age of eighty-five. Viola was born in Otter Creek Township near Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on January 4, 1914 and later confirmed on April 1, 1928 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa by Rev. Read More	Viola Bertha Marie Schmidt (1913 - 1999) Viola Bertha Marie Schmidt was born November 24, 1913, the daughter of George L. and Clara Petersen Schmidt. She died at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at the age of eighty-five. Viola was born in Otter Creek Township near Denison, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on January 4, 1914 and later confirmed on April 1, 1928 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa by Rev. William Frehse. She received her education in a rural school near her home. In 1953, Viola moved with her family to their home in Denison. Viola worked at the JC Penney Store in Denison from 1948, until retiring in 1983. Viola was a life-long member of the Evening Guild and also a member of the Crawford County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a wonderful sister and aunt who loved the company of her family and friends. She loved to bake, crochet, make craft items and especially loved quilting. She designed a quilt for each of her nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Viola also loved to travel in the United States and in her leisure time she enjoyed playing the piano and playing cards with the several card clubs that she belonged to. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Irene and one brother, Raymond. Survivors include one sister, Edna Mae Schmidt of Denison; one brother, Vernie Schmidt and his wife, Helen of Cody, Wyoming; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, nephews and a great-niece; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 3, 1999 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer" and congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as pallbearers were: Roger Schmidt, Terry Schmidt, Tom Schmidt, Jim Schmidt, Bob Barnes and Dan Grill. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Evening Guild.
