Violet was born on May 28, 1932, in Parkston, South Dakota, to Emmanuel and Maria (Winter) Gehring. She grew up on a small family farm which she helped operate for most of her young life. She married the love of her life, Robert Hieb, on November 15, 1953, and the two remained happily married until his passing in 1986. Read More	Violet Hieb, 81, of Elk Point, South Dakota, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Prairie Estates Care Center of Elk Point. Violet was born on May 28, 1932, in Parkston, South Dakota, to Emmanuel and Maria (Winter) Gehring. She grew up on a small family farm which she helped operate for most of her young life. She married the love of her life, Robert Hieb, on November 15, 1953, and the two remained happily married until his passing in 1986. Violet was a quiet and caring family woman who always worked hard to support her six children, at times working as many as three jobs. Regardless of her work schedule she made a dedicated effort to be at almost all of her children's and grandchildren's games and events. Her caring nature was also shown in her deep love for animals of all types. In her free time she loved to follow the Minnesota Twins as well as play a few cards of BINGO. Violet is survived by her children, Joyce (Gary) Bortscheller of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Dale Hieb of Brandon, South Dakota, Mike (Val) Hieb of Brandon, Gary (Patti) Hieb of St. Peters, Missouri, Rose (Reg Robertson) Rosenbaum of Lenexa, Kansas, and Curt (Diana) Hieb of Shawnee, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Max Gehring, Elton Gehring and Alvin Gehring; and her sister, Laura Brandt.
