According to a report from the Highland County Sheriff's Department, Violet Marie Lindsay was the only occupant of the mobile home, located on Airport Road just outside the Monterey town limits. A preliminary finding shows the fire may have been electrical in origin, but Sheriff Herb Lightner has requested that a state arson expert review the scene to determine a definite cause. Members of the Highland County fire departments and the Highland County Rescue Squad were dispatched to the home in the early morning hours. Mrs. Lindsay was found dead of smoke inhalation, noted the sheriff's report. Violet Marie Lindsay, 81, of Monterey, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 14, 1995 at her residence. She was born July 23, 1914 at Mustoe, a daughter of Hampton Bruce and Jemima J. Stalnaker Gardner. She was a member of Victory Chapel Advent Christian Church. On July 5, 1976 her husband, Emmett P. Lindsay; preceded her in death. She Is survived by two daughters, Fay L. Hull of Monterey and Doris A. Simmons of Richmond; four sons, Arnet L. Lindsay of Ohio, Bobby L. Lindsay of Florida, and Bobby Lindsay and Billy G. Lindsay, both of Staunton; four brothers, Delmar Gardner and Julian Gardner, both of Florida, Melvin Gardner of Maryland, and Ariin Gardner of Mustoe; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren: and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday (today) in the Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Donald Rose and the Rev. Jerry Ginn. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery.
