Description	:	Virgil L. Mollet, 88, of Jefferson, SD, died on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A vigil service will then begin at 7:00 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 also at St. Peter Catholic Church with Father David Roehrich celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in Jefferson. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Virgil was born on June 10, 1920 in Newcastle, NE, to Eugene Joseph and Virginia (Belleau) Mollet. The family moved to Jefferson when Virgil was a young child. He attended Gibson Country School and later graduated from Jefferson High School. He married Corrine Blanchard on September 25, 1940, in Jefferson. The couple made their home on the family farm. He farmed in the Jefferson area all his life. Virgil became a license pilot on January 22, 1947. He was very proud of that accomplishment. Virgil was on the Jefferson Farmers Elevator Board and the Jefferson Township Board for many years. Virgil also received recognition in 1966 from the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce for Water and Soil Management on bottomland. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and would often talk about their accomplishments and how proud he was of them all. Virgil loved to fish in Canada with a group of old friends every year which later became twice a year. He also enjoyed hunting in South Dakota and Wyoming. He is survived by his wife Corrine, 4 children; Coleen Kittler and husband Carl, Virgene Bosse, Virgil Mollet Jr. and wife Marcia, and Eugene Mollet and wife Alice all of Jefferson, SD. 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Ivan, Lyman and Carl.
