Laures age 80 of New Hampton died Monday morning, August 27, 2012, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph Center, New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by Virgil's children. Ann Bennett will be the organist with the Immaculate Conception Men's Choir accompanying the congregation in song. Laures age 80 of New Hampton died Monday morning, August 27, 2012, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph Center, New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by Virgil's children. Ann Bennett will be the organist with the Immaculate Conception Men's Choir accompanying the congregation in song. Lector for the service will be Molly Morris. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Virgil's siblings, Cletus Laures, Marlene Weigel, Elaine Wedeking and Diane Brandt. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton, with Andrew Laures, Nathan Laures, Taylor Laures, Jason Morris, Robert Jung, Jessica Troendle, James Schilling, and Shane Laures serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are Alyssa Laures, Ashlyn Laures, Nikki Collins, Alan Morris, Aaron Morris, Jordyn Rahlf, Josh Schilling, Randy Schilling, Jared Laures, Dr. Chris Laures, Elizabeth Laures, and Sydney Laures. Full military interment rites will be provided by the Lawler American Legion Harold Redman Post #279 and Alta Vista Paul Johann VFW Post #4069. Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and an 8:00 p.m. scripture service. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Thursday. Virgil Lester Laures was born October 15, 1931, in Regent, North Dakota, the son of Vincent and Ida (Schueller) Laures. At a young age the family moved from Regent to North Washington, Iowa in pursuit of a better life for their family. Virgil completed his education at St. Mary's Catholic School in North Washington. While working on the Sinnwell farm as a young boy he met the love of his life Kathleen Sinnwell. The couple was united in marriage October 24, 1951 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia. To this union eight children were born. Shortly after being married Virgil entered the service with the United States Army, serving for two years during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on September 10, 1954. After his time in the service Virgil and the family lived on a farm near North Washington where he farmed and sold feed for MoorMan's. He then decided to open Virg's Mobile Service in North Washington a full service station with a general repair shop for many years. Virgil changed careers and began working for the New Hampton Light Plant in 1969. After 24 years of service he retired in 1993. Virgil enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, fishing, playing cards, wood working, coffee at Jerico Jo's, and traveling. He treasured spending time with his family and friends. Virgil was very proud of his military service. He was an active member of the Paul Johann Alta Vista VFW Post #4069, Knights of Columbus, Foresters, and the Lawler American Legion Harold Redman Post #279. Survivors include his wife Kathleen Laures; five sons, Arnie (June) Laures of Waukon, Ron Laures of Platte City, MO, Greg (Joyce) Laures of New Hampton, Larry (Amy) Laures of Alta Vista, Brian (Teresa) Laures of New Hampton; two daughters, Virginia Laures of Oregon, Joan (Al) Morris of New Hampton; one son-in-law, Brian Schilling of New Hampton; one brother, Cletus (Jeanne) Laures of Ionia; three sisters, Marlene (Bill) Weigel of New Hampton, Elaine (Roger) Wedeking of Charles City, Diane (Dave) Brandt of Charles City; twenty grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Ida, one daughter, Peg Schilling on February 23, 2002; one granddaughter, Lynn Laures; two sisters, Rita Burgart, and his twin, Virginia Laures; two brothers, Dale Laures and Kenny Laures.
