Description	:	Virgil Stowers, son of Henry and Adah (Simms) Stowers was born on a farm near Nora, Nebraska, January 22, 1913, and passed away April 4, 1991, in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended District #39 rural school and graduated from Nelson High School with the class of 1930. He attended the School of Commerce in Lincoln, Nebraska. Read More	Virgil Stowers, son of Henry and Adah (Simms) Stowers was born on a farm near Nora, Nebraska, January 22, 1913, and passed away April 4, 1991, in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended District #39 rural school and graduated from Nelson High School with the class of 1930. He attended the School of Commerce in Lincoln, Nebraska. He then returned to the family farm and engaged in farming with his father. May 4, 1940, he married Delcie Rausher at the Nelson Methodist parsonage. The following year he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois. He then returned to Nelson where he and his wife engaged in farming near Nelson. In 1944 they moved to Nelson where he served as Light and Water Superintendent for the City of Nelson. He also served as Light and Water Superintendent for the cities of Mullen, Nebraska and Bridgeport, Nebraska. He then returned to Nelson and purchased the Nelson Cleaning Shop, which he and his wife operated. After selling the Cleaning Shop, he purchased the Nelson Hardware Store, which he and his wife operated as Stowers Hardware. Health problems forced him to retire from the plumbing and electrical work in connection with the Hardware Store. He then secured a position with Southern Nebraska Rural Public Powers District, in the capacity of Power Use Advisor, in the plants of Grand Island and Hastings, Nebraska. There he spent the last ten years of his employment. Virgil became a member of the Nora Methodist Church at an early age. Later he transferred his membership to the Nelson Methodist Church where he served some time as a board member. At the present he is a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ. Virgil was a lover of nature. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed working in his flower garden. He loved improvements of any kind. He took great pride in taking an old rundown house and remodeling it into a beautiful and useful home. Another hobby he enjoyed immensely was flying. At one time he owned and operated his own plane. Virgil enjoyed his relatives and loved and took great pride in his nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Delcie, one sister Eva Hameel of Hastings, Nebraska, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 6, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson with Pastor Steve Tjarks officiating. Music was provided by Alfred and James Hanson singing duets of "In The Garden" and "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow" with Myrtle Worley as organist and accompanist. Casket bearers were Lloyd Ruasher, Craig Grummert, Mark Lynch, Bill Rausher, Ed Lynch and John Adams. Honorary pallbearers were Russell Reeve, Darrell Harrington, Lester Schleufer, Clem Reeve, Ira Adams, Jim Bargen and Gerald B. Branting. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of the arrangments. THANK YOU ...
