Description	:	Virginia Maasjo, 89, of Valley City, ND, died in Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND, on June 30th, 2011. Visitation will begin at 5 pm on Tuesday, July 5th, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City, ND followed by a prayer service at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on July 6th at Our Savior's with Rev. Randall Schlecht officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Virginia Barbara (Nayes) Maasjo was born October 12, 1921, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Deede) Nayes. She attended Nayes Country School, graduated from Fingal High School, and received her Bachelor's degree from Valley City State College. Married to Milton Maasjo, her high school sweetheart, the two farmed together in the Fingal area until retirement in 1984. Milton died in 2003 and Virginia remained in Fingal until 2007 when she moved to Valley City. She taught elementary school for 18 years and later became an outreach worker for Barnes County Senior Citizens, helping to establish centers in towns through the county. She also led senior bus tours to popular tourist destinations. Virginia was an energetic woman whose calendar was always filled. Whether it was Bible study, quilting, Ladies WELCA, or gift shop duties at the Sheyenne Care Center, or sewing "walker bags" for convalescents and the VA Hospital, she was involved. In addition, she was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Fingal American Legion Auxiliary, and the Valley City Retired Teacher's Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Milton, her sister, Loretta Baird, and her daughter in law, Gail Maasjo. Survivors include her three children, Dawn (Ron) Struxness, Naperville, IL; Elizabeth (Jimmy) Gay, Monroe, LA; and Marlyn Maasjo, Fingal, ND; four grandchildren, Michael Struxness, Port Angeles, WA; Meghan Struxness, Aurora, IL; Joseph (Ashley) Maasjo; Casselton, ND, and Samantha Maasjo, Fargo, ND, and three great grandchildren, Sydney, Kaitlyn, and Caleb. She is also survived by two brothers LeRoy (Ella) Nayes, Bismarck, ND; James (Joan) Nayes, Dousman, WI, sister, Dorothy Wilkins, Modesto, CA., nieces, nephews, and special friends.
