Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM Monday, February 8, 2021 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is 3:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. There will be a 2:00 p.m. Vigil Service Sunday at the Church. The Mass and the vigil service will be broadcast live on the McKown Funeral Home Facebook page. Virginia Mary Guenther, the daughter of John and Kathryn (Kula) Drog was born July 2, 1929 outside St. Edward, NE. She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Edward Catholic Church. She attended Boone County School District 66 through the 8th Grade, and moved to Columbus, NE to complete her education and Graduated from Kramer High School in 1948. On April 20, 1949 Virginia married Werner H. Guenther at the St. Edward Catholic Church, with an all-day wedding, which started with breakfast at her parents’ farm. They made their home in Columbus where they raised their four daughters. In June of 2018, she moved to the Norfolk Veterans home, where she passed into the loving arms of God on February 3, 2021, she was 91. When Virginia moved to Columbus, she worked as a waitress at the Adams Café. She began working at Tempo Department Store when her children were in school. She went to work at Evelyn's Hallmark when Tempo/Pamida closed but spent most of her later years with Werner, traveling to visit relatives and enjoying retirement. Virginia was a founding member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, a girl scouts’ leader and enjoyed being apart of various card clubs. She also loved being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Virginia and Werner traveled the countryside in their motor home. Many of their trips involved going to fish in South Dakota, where Virginia became a Master Angler after catching a 33” Walleye, which Werner always claimed he was responsible for! Although the couple enjoyed their trips, Virginia was very content just being at home helping her daughters. She loved attending the grandchildren's sporting events, which was a job.in itself. Virginia enjoyed embroidering, gardening, playing games with the children, and taking walks. Her last years were difficult, but her faith and family were the last thing to sustain her. She is survived by: Daughter: Carol and Mike Boyce, Syracuse, NE Daughter: Marcia and Paul Louis, Columbus, NE Daughter: Cindy and Pat Sackett, Columbus, NE Daughter: Mary and Frank Mielak, Columbus, NE 16 Grandchildren, 26 Great-grandchild, 4 Step Great-grandchild, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. Sisters: Evelyn (Don) Schott, Silver Creek, NE and Lorene Cheloha, Columbus, NE Sister-in-laws: Jeanette Holliday and Betty Krumland Along with many other nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and infant daughter Michelle. Her brothers: Adolph, Leo, Edwin, and Edmund Drog; sisters: Stacia Paprocki, Wanda Valasek, and Irene Laska. Step-Grandson: Bodie Houfek and many Sister and Brother-in-laws.
