She was born December 8, 1922, in Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Harold Eugene and Gertrude Alice (Underwood) Blanchard. The family later moved to Council Grove. Virginia attended Garfield Grade School and graduated from Wilson High School (now known as Council Grove High School) in 1941. Ginny married Donald D. Hunter on February 6, 1943, in Council Grove. They made their home in Skiddy and moved to Council Grove in 1948. They had 2 sons, Donald and Douglas. Don and Ginny purchased their own business in July 1953, known as Hunter Sales Company, where Ginny served as Office Manager. The moved to Alamo, TX in 1989 and returned to Council Grove in 2011 to be near family. Virginia was a member of the First Congregational Church, Eastern Star and D.A.R. One of Ginny’s greatest joys in life was quilting and has shared them with many family members and friends. She also loved to read and after she lost most of her eye sight, she turned to the joy of “books on tape”. She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, husband Don and son Douglas. Ginny is survived by her son, Donald Gary Hunter and wife Pam; grandchildren Shawn Hunter (Deidre), Shannon Short (David) and Ashlee Nelson (Matt); great-grandchildren Dillon and Daulton Hunter, Molly, Hunter and Lillian (Lilly) Short, and Alexandria and Sophia Nelson. Per Virginia’s wishes, her body was donated to the KU Medical Center. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Diabetes Foundation and may be sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
