Born January 10, 1919, in Lost Creek, WV, Virginia was the daughter of the late Boyd B. Garland and Carrie A. (Bevan) Garland. She was preceded in death by her husband: Edwin C. Read More	CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND —- Virginia Opal Shank, 101, of Cumberland, MD, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Hearthstone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center one month before her 102nd birthday. Born January 10, 1919, in Lost Creek, WV, Virginia was the daughter of the late Boyd B. Garland and Carrie A. (Bevan) Garland. She was preceded in death by her husband: Edwin C. Shank; a brother: Reverend Harold Garland; two sisters: Marcella Mock and Gertie Teter; two infant brothers; and a son-in-law: Terry Colaw. Virginia was a homemaker and was employed by the Allegany Count Board of Education in food service at Penn. Avenue and South Penn elementary schools. She was a life-long member Davis Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women and helped make apple butter for 80 years. She enjoyed reading, quilting, crocheting and word puzzles. Virginia is survived by her daughters: Jean Fisher (Paul); and Marlene Simpson (Quentin). She leaves behind five grandchildren: Blair Simpson (Martii), Chris Colaw, Brent Simpson (Trina), Mark Colaw and Rachael Mendez (Ruben). Also surviving are seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and faithful friend, Dale and Martha Riley. A private graveside service will be conducted at the Davis Memorial Cemetery by Pastor Rob Pierson and Pastor Quentin Simpson. The family would like to thank Kim Kaisner, and Hearthstone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care of Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Davis Memorial United Methodist Women, 14300 Uhl Highway, Cumberland, MD 21502.
