Description	:	Virginia Paige King, (nee V. Paige Swanson) known as Paige to her friends and family, aged 92, died peacefully in her home in Tustin, California on April 21, 2016. She was born in the panhandle of Nebraska in a place called Merriman, on March 24, 1928. Her parents were Joe Swanson of Chadron and Joy Sanders. She spent much of her childhood on the farm of her grandfather, Ben Sanders, east of Gordon. She attended a one room country school and then went to high school in Gordon. As a young woman during WWII, Paige worked in a munitions factory outside Denver, Colorado. She married Lloyd King of Rushville just before he shipped out to fight in the South Pacific in 1942. Lloyd, who is buried in the Gordon cemetery, died in Tustin, California in 1992. In 1963, Paige moved with her husband and two sons to Tustin, California, in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. She maintained close ties with her family in Sheridan County all her life. Paige worked for Kresge’s (which became Kmart) for over 25 years as a bookkeeper. After she retired, she volunteered at Tustin Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. Paige loved to crochet and made beautiful blankets for family and friends. She was also a collector of swans in every shape, size and material (her maiden name was Swanson). Paige was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hanna Chapter, in Medicine Bow, Wyoming. Her husband, Lloyd King, a decorated WW II veteran became superintendent of schools in Hanna, Wyoming and later a teacher in the public schools in Southern California. Paige and Lloyd were married for nearly 50 years. Paige is survived by her son Llonald of Los Angeles, California and Lindahl of Tustin, California. In her final years of life as her health began to fail, her son Lindahl and Llonald’s wife, Virginia, became her loving caretakers. She is also survived by two grandsons, Dylan King of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Thomas King of Washington, D.C. as well as five beautiful great-grandchildren: Charlie, Claire, Crosby, Johannah and Landyn. She is also survived by her dear sister, Shirley Beattie, of Gordon, her niece Kristi Eisenreich of Gordon and many other loved nieces, nephews, and cousins, many of whom reside in or near Gordon. Paige had an uncanny talent for remembering all their names and addresses and their birthdays too. Her knowledge of her many relatives in Nebraska, Colorado, and elsewhere was encyclopedic. Paige’s ashes will be interred in the cemetery in Gordon, Nebraska on Saturday, May 28, 2016, 10:00 a.m., next to her husband, Lloyd. She was loved by many and will be sincerely missed.
