Interment will follow services at the Wibaux Cemetery in Wibaux. Silha Funeral Home of Wibaux has been entrusted with the arrangements. Ruth began her life on April 21, 1929 near Camel Hump, North Dakota. She was born to Charles A. and Virginia Katheryn (Myers) Moore. Virginia Ruth’s father was a baker and cook who ran or owned several cafes in various towns in western North Dakota, including the “Beanery” in Marmouth, North Dakota. The family eventually purchased a home north of Wibaux, Montana. Ruth, as she was commonly known, attended the Bean School north of Wibaux. She graduated from Wibaux High School with the class of 1947. On October 14, 1947 Ruth was united in marriage to Roy Houck in Wibaux. The family lived in various towns, including Wibaux and Glendive, Montana and Carlyle, Montana before moving to Williston, North Dakota in 1957. In the fall of 1962, the family briefly moved to Portland, Oregon before returning to Wibaux in May of 1963. They then purchased a ranch north of Wibaux where they lived and raised their family before moving into Wibaux in 1976. Ruth led a challenging life. Her mother died when she was just fourteen years old. Her husband was a long-haul trucker so she was alone for long periods of time, during which she maintained the ranch and raised her family. Ruth experienced many rewards and tribulations of being a rancher’s wife, including being trampled by a herd of stampeding cattle; being on the losing end of a confrontation between a Caterpillar D-8 dozer and her car and chasing a runaway pickup. Ruth worked throughout her entire life with stints in more than one restaurant. Her father had taught her to make wonderful merengue pies which were a big hit at the Palace Café. She also worked as a cook at the Wibaux County Nursing Home and as the Avon lady in Wibaux for many, many years. In the early 1980’s Ruth had an unfortunate fall that required a hip replacement which was unsuccessful and caused her trouble for the rest of her life. Through it all Ruth remained a very cheerful person and was pleasant to everyone she met. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Virginia, as she preferred to be called later in life, was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Virginia Moore; her husband, Roy Houck and her older brother, Charles Keith Moore.
