Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach is entrusted with arrangements. Roy was born May 28, 1924 near Camel's Hump in rural Golden Valley County, North Dakota. The son of Jesse E. Houck and Lizzy I. (Abraham) Houck. He received his elementary education at various country schools, he attended Beach High School graduating with the class of 1942. The family settled on the "Reeve Ranch" in northern Golden Valley County, eventually purchasing a farm in that area. Medical reasons excluded him from serving in WWII, but did not prevent Roy from farming with his father. And at this time his life-long affair with trucking began. On October 14, 1947 Roy married Virginia Ruth Moore in Wibaux, Montana. They moved between various farms and jobs in Wibaux, Beach, Golva, including a brief time spent in California. They returned to Wibaux, Montana where Roy worked in the oil fields and drove oil tanker trucks. In 1957 they moved to Williston with their family where Roy continued to drive oil field trucks. In 1963, Roy and Virginia Ruth returned to Wibaux, Montana and purchased the John Trollope ranch which was a neighboring ranch to Keith Moore, Virginia's brother. While farming and ranching Roy still managed to continue his work as a long-haul semi driver. In 1976, Roy retired from farming and sold the family farm to their son Russell but continued to fulfill his passion as a truck driver. He finally retired from trucking when he was almost eighty years old. Roy was very proud of the fact that in sixty years of driving he never had an accident. Roy enjoyed his family, playing cards, dancing, gardening, and tinkering with his vehicles and machinery. Roy was preceded in death by both of his parents and an older brother William Houck. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth Houck of Beach, North Dakota, son Russell Houck of Wibaux, Montana, daughter Cathy Renee Bradley of Billings Montana, his sister Margaret Allen of Beach, North Dakota, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren
