Read More	Virginia Carlson, age 88, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2009, after a brief illness. Virginia Verna Carlson was born September 18, 1921, in Blaine Township, Ida County, Iowa, the second of six children born to Arthur and Louise (Erichsen) Wunschel. She attended country school, Blaine No. 9, through the eighth grade where her father was the school's director. Virginia loved to read and would look forward to the time each month that their library books were exchanged with different library books from another school. On December 26, 1940, she was united in marriage to Guy Leroy Carlson. The couple worked the land and raised livestock, eventually settling on the family farm between Ida Grove and Arthur. They were blessed with five children. In 1969, due to Guy's illness, the family moved to Ida Grove. Virginia went to work for the Ida Grove school district as a cook. Guy died September 22, 1979, and Virginia became the sole supporter of the family. She continued to work for the school, and after serving 20 years, retired in 1990. Virginia had a passion for life. She loved her family, her church, and her friends. She enjoyed reading, traveling, sewing, and gardening. She enjoyed her Friday and Saturday shopping trips. Her flowers brought her much joy. Virginia was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove where she was active in the Johannah Circle and Dorcas Society and loved quilting with her sister and daughter. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her untold joy and she lived every day proud of them all. She nurtured them, showed them her strength, and shared her faith with them. Virginia lived her life by faith and it was apparent to all who loved her. Survivors include five children, Arlene Wonder and Shirley Havener, both of Ida Grove, Ronald (Vickie) Carlson of Odebolt, and LuAnn Smith and Marilyn (Dan) Dose, all of Ida Grove; nine grandchildren, Sheryl Wonder, Valarie Wonder, Ann Wonder Pereira, Dustin Carlson, Kim Smith (David) Claussen, Charles (Lauren) Havener, Nicholas Carlson, Kristin Carlson, and Ashley Dose; and 11 great-grandchildren, Alexis Pereira, Aarika Pereira, Adam Wonder, Kaylea Killian, Brittany Pereira, Jaden Carlson, Trinity Carlson, Jaxson Claussen, Gloria Havener, Samuel Havener, and Dale Carlson. Also surviving are four brothers, Marvin (Florence) Wunschel and Clifford (Darlene) Wunschel, all of Ida Grove, and Leonard (Lois) Wunschel, and Everett (Judy) Wunschel, all of Arthur; an uncle, Harold Wunschel of Odebolt; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a grandson, Kevin Smith; a sister, Leona Cook; and a son-in-law, James Wonder.
