Description	:	Viva Kernen, daughter of Milton and Anna G. Peterson Dorsett, was born in Shaddick, Illinois, March 25, 1902 and entered into rest March 24, 1978, at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, just one day before her 76th birthday. She grew to womanhood in the Iveyville and Guss areas. She was united in marriage January 1, 1924 to Leslie Kernen. Peterson Dorsett, was born in Shaddick, Illinois, March 25, 1902 and entered into rest March 24, 1978, at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, just one day before her 76th birthday. She grew to womanhood in the Iveyville and Guss areas. She was united in marriage January 1, 1924 to Leslie Kernen. To this union was born three children, Paul Kernen of Grand Junction, Colo., Evelyn Strain of Papillion, Nebraska and Thelma March of Hot Springs, South Dakota. Viva and Leslie lived and farmed in the Nodaway vicinity all their married life with the exception of six years spent in Quincy, California, in the lumber mills. Viva enjoyed many hobbies, among which were sewing, knitting, crocheting and growing flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Leslie; one son, Paul and wife Inice; two daughters, Evelyn and husband Clarence and Thelma and husband Bill; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Villisca, March 27, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Clair Kerns officiating. Interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery. Music was provided by Mrs. Quincy Dunn. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. George Carmichael and Mrs. Henry Kernen, Jr. Those in charge of the register were Mrs. Joe Shipley and Mrs. Stella Peterson Ushers were Marion Hendrickson, Earl Goldsmith and Gilbert Rider. Casket bearers were Kenneth Kernen, Skip Fitzwater, Marvin Peterson, Henry Kernen, Jr., Robert Wheeler, and Roy Peterson. Adams County Free Press, April 6, 1978, page 2
