Description	:	Vivian Lucille Laursen was born January 12, 1924 on a farm near Dorsey, NE in Holt county. Her parents were William and Cecille Throckmorton Derickson. She was the fifth of eight children. She spent her early childhood on the family farm, where they all enjoyed the hills and creek, the wildflowers and wild berries. Vivian attended the Dorsey school until the family moved to a farm one mile west of Star, NE. Then, she attended the Cedar Corner school nearby. Read More	Vivian Lucille Laursen was born January 12, 1924 on a farm near Dorsey, NE in Holt county. Her parents were William and Cecille Throckmorton Derickson. She was the fifth of eight children. She spent her early childhood on the family farm, where they all enjoyed the hills and creek, the wildflowers and wild berries. Vivian attended the Dorsey school until the family moved to a farm one mile west of Star, NE. Then, she attended the Cedar Corner school nearby. She attended Lynch High School for two years, then, transferred to O'Neill High School, graduating with the class of 1821. She was seventeen years old, when she taught her first term of school in a rural Holt County school, followed by two more years of teaching. She worked awhile at the Martin Bomber plant in Omaha during 1944. She was united in marriage to Arden Laursen of rural Orchard, NE, January 4, 1946 at Creighton, NE. To this union one daughter, Jeanine Vivian, was born. Arden passed away, February 15, 1985. Vivian and Jeanine moved to O'Neill in October of 1985. In February of 1990, Vivian was diagnosed as having acute leukemia. She was taken to Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, where she underwent treatment, returning to O'Neill in May of 1990. At that time, she joined her daughter, Jeanine, as a resident of the O'Neill Nursing Home. Then, November 14, it became necessary for her to return once again to the Clarkson Hospital, where she passed away December 15, 1990 at the age of 66 years, 11 months and 3 days. She was a loving wife and exceptionally devoted mother. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Jeanine, three brothers and their wives; four sisters and their husbands. Also surviving is a brother-in-law and his wife; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arden, her parents and grandparents and three nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 19 at 10:30 at the First Presbyterian Church in O'Neill with Reverend Joe Tropansky officiating.
