Description	:	"Mrs. Roy Thompson, Popular Matron, Passes Away After a Brief Illness. The community was shocked Wednesday morning upon learning that on Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock, Mrs. Volna L. Thompson, known to her many friends as "Peggy" Thompson, had died at the Victory hospital in Napa after a brief illness. Thompson, known to her many friends as "Peggy" Thompson, had died at the Victory hospital in Napa after a brief illness. Mrs. Thompson was taken with a severe sore throat which compelled her to enter a hospital for treatment. The Illness developed into pneumonia and in spite of all that could be done by physicians and nurses she passed from this life. Deceased was the wife of Roy R. Thompson; son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Thompson, of St. Helena. She was the daughter of Harry C. and the late Grace Wright Wood, of Napa and was born 35 years ago. After graduating from the Napa schools deceased took a course at a business college and upon completing it became bookkeeper in the office of the Vallejo Chronicle. Later she did newspaper work in both Napa and Vallejo and during the world war did Y. M. C. A. Work. When the Montgomery Ward Company opened its Napa store Mrs. Thompson accepted a position as bookkeeper and was working there when overtaken by illness. Mrs. Thompson was President of Napa Unit No. 113, American Legion Auxiliary at the time of her death. She was a very popular young woman and her death came as a great shock to her relatives and many friends. Besides her father, Harry C. Wood, of Napa, she leaves her grief-stricken husband, Roy R. Thompson who was summoned to Napa from Kings City where he is employed late Tuesday when Mrs. Thompson's condition took a turn for the worse. He did not reach her bedside, however, until several hours after she had departed this life. She also leaves her grandmother, Mrs. Kate Wright, of Napa; three aunts, Miss Olive Wright and Miss Irene Wright, of Napa and Mrs. Hattie Goodrich, of Los Angeles; an uncle, Gilbert Wright, of Red Bluff, and a greataunt, Mollie Starkweather, of Napa. The funeral was held from Webber's Parlors at Napa Thursday at 2 o'clock p. m. Interment took place at Yountville cemetery." - St. Helena Star (June 10, 1932) DOB 1900 was obtained from an old cemetery ledger, but if she was 35 at the time of death like her obituary says, her DOB would be 1896-1897. An old cemetery ledger from 1961 lists the date of death as June 9th, 1936 and that she was 36 years old at the time of her death. 05/05/2022 Find a Grave Member number 47816027 suggested Volna's birthdate based on a 1910 census.
