Time for fellowship and lunch will be shared following the service at the church. Vonis' final act of caring for others was the gift of life to future generations through the donation of her body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine for medical science research. Vonis Marie Schroeder was born May 21, 1922, the daughter of Henry Hugo and Dorothea (Jahde) Schroeder. She passed into eternal life on June 16, 2015 at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa at the age of 93. Vonis was born on a farm a few miles northwest of Schleswig, Iowa. She was baptized June 7, 1922, at Grant Township Lutheran Church, a country church just a couple miles from her home. Her family later moved to a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa. She was confirmed in Charter Oak at St. John's Evangelical. Lutheran Church in 1936. She attended Charter Oak Schools and graduated with the class of 1940. She worked in Sioux City, Iowa and on February 9, 1942 she was united in marriage to Leonard Reinbold. To this union they were blessed with two daughters. After living a short time in Mapleton, Iowa the couple moved to a farm near Charter Oak and then in 1947 they returned to live in Mapleton. Leonard passed away June 20, 1998, and Vonis continued to live there for the rest of her life. For thirty years Vonis worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Ganzhorn at the Maple Valley Medical Clinic in Mapleton. She was very dedicated to this job and met many many life long friends there. Vonis was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Mapleton for nearly 70 years. After retirement she volunteered many hours with the Braille Workers. Vonis was an independent private person devoting nearly all of her time to her job and family. She was the most loving and caring mother for "the girls" that anyone could be blessed with and spent many long hours after a day at work gardening, homemaking and caring for them. Fun times were family gatherings with homemade food, kids playing, laughter and cards. Later, after "the girls" were raised, camping and fishing with good friends Bud and Harriet Welte was enjoyed. Her schnauzers were her joy and companions over the years. Later in retirement years she enjoyed gardening with dear friend Adele Brenner and holidays spent with either Adele's family or with Barb Meier's family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren lived far away, but they always remained dear to her heart. She looked forward to her daily phone calls from her daughter and many phone visits with her granddaughter and great grandchildren. Hers was a long, hard working, God loving life blessed with good health, loving family and friends, and special neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers Arthur, Lowell, and Arlo, one sister Arlene Schroeder, and many other family members and friends. Those living in God's grace of time to cherish her memories include daughters and spouses Ina Rae (Harry) Hebbert and Beverly (Lonnie) Brown; grandchildren Kurtis (Karol) Hebbert, Kevin Hebbert, Jennifer (Rob) Haas, and Jason (Lisa) Brown; great grandchildren, Chance, Wyatt and Emmett Hebbert, Kayla and Ryan Gast, and Courtnie Brown; and many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and special longtime friends including Barbara Meier, Adele Brenner, Sharon Seuntjens, and Edna Swanger.
