Standing in a pulpit banked with flowers, beautiful testimonials to the memory of Wade H. Ford, whose body rested before the altar of the church, the pastor of Immanuel, Rev. J. R. Bicking, selected the above words as a text for the funeral sermon, Tuesday afternoon. He was assisted in the services by Dr. J. Yancey Fincher, pastor of the Baptist Temple. Relatives and friends had filled the church before the hour of the funeral, and sat with contemplative minds and sad faces waiting for the arrival of the funeral cortege, and as the church bell tolled and the soft tones of the pipe organ filled the church, the casket containing the earthly remains of Wade H. Ford was carried up the aisle as the audience arose and stood with bowed heads. More than a year ago, Wade was stricken with paralysis. He made a wonderful fight to recover his health, and seemed fairly well on the way to almost complete recovery, when, on a trip to Salisbury a few months ago, he suffered a second stroke. With the same determination that marked his efforts all through his life, he again began to fight to get well and was making considerable progress, apparently, when on Thursday evening, after his wife and he had had supper with their recently married daughter, and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Le Roy Carson, in their apartment in the Daugherty building, and had returned to their home on Somerset avenue, he suffered a third paralytic stroke, and died Friday evening at about nine o'clock. Wade H. Ford was born at Manokin, near Westover, in this county, July 4, 1876. He was the son of William E. Ford, Jr., and Mary E. Ford, both members of old Somerset families, whose ancestors were among the first settlers in Somerset. One grandfather was Capt. Wm. E. Ford, popularly known as "Bill Ed" Ford, an old time merchant of the central section of the County. His other grandfather, on his mother's side, was James McLane, and his great-grandfather was the first settler at Manokin or Jamestown, the name "Jamestown" being taken from the name of the elder McLane. He attended the public schools of Fairmount, and in July of 1897 he accepted a position with the Baltimore Life Insurance Company, as agent in and around his home community. Mr. Ford had been active in the civic and religious life of the community since be came here. He was a member of Chesapeake Lodge, No. 147, A. F.& A. M. ,for years, was a Past President of the Crisfield Rotary Club, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and affiliated with the Immanuel M. E. Church, where he was superintendent of the Sunday School for several years. In 1903 he was married to Miss Maud Riggin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Riggin, of this city. They have two children, Mrs. Mabel Frances Robertson, of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Margaret Ford Carson, of Crisfield, and one grandchild, little Miss Judith Robertson. Wade Ford was known and liked, respected and enjoyed, in all sections of the lower part of the Eastern Shore. He had the happy faculty of being at home with people in all walks of life and the gift of building up quickly warm friendships. Scores of friends visited his home as his body rested there after his death, and unusually beautiful floral pieces by the dozens were sent there as tokens of esteem by relatives, friends and acquaintances. After the funeral services his body was laid to rest in the Crisfield cemetery. The pall, bearers were Luther J. Lawson, E. S. Costen, George T. Coster, John Green, Charles 0. Hubbard, W. Ross Collins. Mr. Ford is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maude R. Ford, two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Frances Robertson, of Baltimore, and Mrs. Margaret Ford Carson, of Crisfield, and one granddaughter, little Miss Judith Robertson, of Baltimore. A large number of Mr. Ford's friends from Pocomoke City, Princess Anne, Salisbury and Baltimore, were present at the funeral services, many of them being Rotarians with whom he had been closely associated for some years.
