Waival was born on February 15, 1922, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of David Cloman and Rachael (McCowen) Cherry. She attended school in Waterloo until the 9th grade, until she became ill. Waival was born on February 15, 1922, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of David Cloman and Rachael (McCowen) Cherry. She attended school in Waterloo until the 9th grade, until she became ill. Following school, Waival competed as a dramatic reader, where she placed 3rd in nationals. She worked at Shield's Dental Laboratory from 1938 until 1945. On December 30, 1945, Waival was united in marriage to Roger W. Austin at Central Christian Church in Waterloo. The couple made their home near Shell Rock, where Waival raised their family. The family moved to Cedar Falls in 1956 and Waival began working as a seamstress at Black's Department Store from 1965 until 1972. The couple retired in 1982 and they spent their retirement years wintering in Texas. In 1983, the couple moved back to Shell Rock and then to Waverly in 1984. Roger died on January 11, 2012. Waival was a member of the Glad Tidings Church, a former member of the Central Christian Church and the Winnebago Club. She enjoyed crocheting, cross word puzzles and reading. Waival is survived by a son, Jon (Connie) Austin of Waterloo; a daughter, Janalee (Michael) Quigley of Forsyth, Missouri; a son, Jim (Kristi) Austin of Waverly; a son, Jerry Austin of Waverly and a daughter, Jillynn (Jeffery) Johnson of Cedar Falls; 12 grandchildren, Travis (An) Quigley, Jeremy (Denise) Austin, Jesse Austin, Kelly ( Kevin) Blackwell, Joshua (Maggie) Austin, Jaime (James) Culpepper, Ty (Amber) Austin, Jace Austin, Jonni (Justin) Meier, Jeremiah Johnson, Jacob Johnson, and Jonah Johnson; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death her parents, husband, Roger, one brother in infancy, three sisters, Murle Ralston, Genevive Hahn and Blossom Tufts, and one son in infancy, JoDavid Donald Austin. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial will be held in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and also for one hour prior to services on Saturday.
