Read More	WALTER ALAN SAUNDERS (Age 93) On Friday, May 2, 2008, WALTER ALAN SAUNDERS of Chaptico, MD at Taylor Farms Assisted Living in Bushwood,MD. Born on May 22, 1914 in Park Hall in St.Mary's County, MD he was the son of the late Wilbur Wesley Saunders and Jane Fish Sanner Saunders. Wilber Saunders was a descendent of the Saunders family that came to the Maryland Colony on the Ark and the Dove and landed on St. Clements Island on March 25, 1634. Walter graduated with the first graduating class of 1931 from Great Mills High School in Great Mills, MD. He operated a bakery in Leonardtown, MD for a few years and was a farmer and a waterman and maintained an oyster ground, a garden, an orchard and cultivated flowers. He was a member of the Wicomico River Commission, served for 18 years as an Episcopal Appointee to the Board of Directors of the Cedar Lane St. Mary's Home for the Elderly in Leonardtown, Lay Reader at Christ Church in Chaptico, served on the Board of the National Cathedral and a member of Maryland Watermen's Association. He is survived by his daughter Florence S. Parker of Gays Mills, WI, son Walter "Bo" Stanley Saunders of Takoma Park, MD., stepsons Frederick Jerome McWilliams, Leonardtown, MD, Thomas Grason McWilliams, Jr., Elkton, MD., Joseph Turner, Chaptico, MD., one grandson, one granddaughter, 23 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, As well as his sisters Edna S. Lobell, Clara S. Sommers, Myrtle S. Faunce and Millie S. Cullison. Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Dorothy Baughman Saunders and his wife of 20 years, Frances Norris Saunders, six brothers and a sister. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Christ Church in Chaptico, MD. A reception will follow in the church hall. Contributions in his honor may be made to Christ Church, Chaptico, MD. 20621 Published in The Washington Post on May 9, 2008.
